The Indian Ocean, surrounded by the world’s highest populations, is crucial for social, political, and individual wellbeing. Its significance compels member states to prioritize Ocean Science, focusing on climate and environmental interactions. This initiative aims to enhance marine scientific research and ocean governance, fostering knowledge and capacity building. It will drive adaptive, data-intensive marine governance to give an emphasis on a scalable and inter-operable database.

OBJECTIVES
Objectives of the CoE Sri Lanka

To promote and facilitate Marine Scientific Research in the IORA region

To provide specialist technical knowledge on the Indian Ocean science for Member States

To promote and facilitate education, training and capacity building in terms of ocean sciences and management for sustainable utilization of available resources (expertise and tools) and coordinating appropriate symposia, conferences and workshops among the IORA member states.

To facilitate and strengthen knowledge exchange between scientists and policy makers through collaboration

To ensure that all member states and their citizens have reliable access to information and resources, our digital library platform is designed for easy accessibility.
